Top 6 Things To Experience at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

Walt Disney World may be known first and foremost for its theme parks, but Disney also has two water parks that keep guests cool and entertained throughout the year as well. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is one of the water parks, which has been operating for 27 years. There are many attractions to explore and I promise you’ll want to stay from park open to park close. Here are the top six things you should experience at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon:

6. Lazy River

While you can experience this at every water park, there’s something about being lazy in a Disney park that just makes it even better! With several entrances/exits, you can come and go as often as you please, and it gives you a chance to lounge out and see the park from different areas. Being in the sun can be draining, and this can be a great way to keep cool and take a break at the same time!

5. Gang Plank Falls

This is currently the one ‘family style’ ride in the park as it seats up to four people! Travel down the falls in an inner tube that is sure to get soaked thanks to the rough waters that you’ll be crashing into. This is one of my favorites in the park because you get to experience it with a few other people, and freaking out with others is so much better than freaking out alone!

4. Humunga Kowabunga

If you like speed, this one’s for you! You’ll reach 39 mph in seconds as you descend five stories in an enclosed slide. This is one of the park’s more exciting slides because you do go alone and you reach decently fast speeds for a water slide. This is also one of a few slides in the park that has a height restriction.

3. Crush ‘n’ Gusher

As far as slides go, this one is my favorite in the park. This is a single or double rider attraction and you can choose one of three slides to go down. It’s propelled by water jets and will send you flying through turns and down hills, which adds to the excitement. Because there are three different slides, you can go three times and have a completely different experience each time.

2. Shark Reef

This is a very unique experience that is included in the price of your admission to the park. You are able to snorkel through a saltwater reef that is populated with stingrays, bonnethead sharks, leopard sharks and a variety of colorful fish. Snorkels, masks and lifejackets are provided, so there is nothing stopping you from having this experience the next time you visit the park. But, if snorkeling isn’t your cup of tea, there is an underwater viewing area of the reef as well.

1. The Wave Pool

Typhoon Lagoon is home to one of the world’s largest outdoor wave pools, and it’s the best attraction in the park. At the top of the hour, an alarm will sound, giving you the signal that it’s time to prepare for the first wave! Before you know it, a 50-foot wave will form and move quickly through the pool before crashing and taking everyone in its path down. The waves will come every few minutes for a half hour before stopping until the top of the next hour. Every spot in the pool is a good spot and no one is ‘safe’ from the wave, and it’s a great way to cool off and have a thrilling experience while in the park, especially if you don’t get to experience waves at your beach back home!

I know that a trip to the water parks isn’t always in the cards for a Disney vacation, but they are so much fun and a great break from the theme parks! Even if you don’t want to spend an entire day, you are able to add a water park ticket as a park hopper add-on to any theme park ticket you purchase, so you can spend the first part of your day playing around at Typhoon Lagoon and end your day watching Wishes at Magic Kingdom! Be sure to check out Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and all that it has to offer on your next trip to Disney World!
