How to Know What Time of Year is Best for Your Family to Visit Walt Disney World – 6 Questions to Ask Yourself

Deciding when to go to Walt Disney World can change the way you experience your vacation. Do you have to go during the summer when the kids are off from school, or are you free to go anytime during the year? Are going for an anniversary or holiday? There are many questions to consider when trying to decide what time of year is best for your family to visit Walt Disney World. Here are the top six questions to ask yourself.

6. How many family members are going?

The first step in knowing what time of year is best for your family to visit Disney, is to decide how many family members are going. Is it just you and your husband? Your two kids? Grandparents as well? Once you know how many family members are going, talk it over with them to see what works best for them in terms of scheduling and what their budget is like. Once you know the answers to these questions, it will help to narrow down what time of year is best for your family.

5. What type of weather do you prefer when on vacation?

When planning your trip, consider what the weather in Florida is like. If you think you want to go in the summer, expect hot temperatures and high humidity. If you plan on spending time at the pool or waterparks, this might be perfect for you! On the other hand, if you prefer not to wear SPF 100 all day, going during the winter months offers a slightly cooler experience. While it does still tend to be warm during the middle of the day, the mornings and nights certainly have a chill in the air. Consider the temperature that will be more comfortable for your family and try to plan around that!

4. What time of year is best to take off of school and work?

Another thing to consider is school and work. Can you only go during summer vacation or during winter break? Do you need to take a week off of work or more, and are you able to? If you plan on going when your kids are out of school, it pretty much narrows down the time of year to spring, summer, or winter break. If you are going for just a long weekend, then any time of year might work best for you. Consider the benefits of taking your kids out of school for a few days or you taking time off of work during a month that you normally wouldn’t have considered before. It might open the door to fun events for you to try that you haven’t done before.

3. What is your budget like?

What sort of budget do you have? Are you looking to save a few bucks this time around? Disney has different “seasons,” but it is not as simple as spring, summer, fall and winter. These seasons are called “peak” and “off peak.” Peak season is during the summer and holidays, so if you are on a tighter budget you aren’t likely to find special deals then. However, if you go during “off peak” season, you can often find deals such as 30% off your hotel stay or free dining. Do a little research! If your family can go during January or September, consider going then for a chance at those special deals.

2. Are you going for a holiday or special occasion?

Another thing to consider is if you are going for a holiday or special occasion. If you plan on going for your birthday or anniversary then you already know what time of year to go and there isn’t much point to deviate from that. If you are planning on going during the holiday season, consider going after Thanksgiving but before Christmas. Crowds are usually smaller and you get to enjoy the beautifully decorated parks at a more leisurely pace. If you aren’t planning on going for a special occasion, then think about the next question below!

1.Is there a special event that you have been waiting to try?

Walt Disney World has several major events that are popular during different times of the year. The Food and Wine Festival, the Flower and Garden Festival, Frozen Summer Fun, and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are all different events that occur during each of the four seasons. If you want to go specifically for one of these events, you might not want to consider what the weather will be like or what the peak season or off peak season can do for you. Do your research! No matter what time of year you go, you are sure to enjoy something fun and exciting for the whole family.
